Whole-Home Repiping in Chestermere
Patrick knew it was time to address the Poly B plumbing in his Chestermere-area home. Located on an acreage east of Calgary, his property had been plumbed with polybutylene during original construction, and after years of concern about potential leaks and insurance complications, he decided to move forward with a full PEX conversion. He contacted Urban Piping’s Poly B Replacement Calgary team to schedule the work.
Urban Piping’s crew began with thorough site preparation, laying Ram Board to protect tile and hardwood surfaces, carpet liner in high-traffic areas, and plastic sheeting over furniture in work zones. The team carefully cut and saved drywall pieces for reinstallation.
The plumbing scope involved complete removal of all Poly B plumbing throughout the home, replaced with Class A Rehau PEX featuring color-coded hot and cold lines with UV barrier protection. Every fixture received new connections using quality materials: Dahl and BMI shut-off valves for all hot and cold supply lines, braided distribution hoses for faucets and toilets, brass exterior garden faucets, and a city-compliant laundry box setup. Plastic PEX fittings with copper crimp rings ensured secure, lasting connections.
Following the plumbing work, the team completed full drywall repair for all access points created during the repiping. This included boarding, mudding, taping, and texture matching to blend seamlessly with existing ceiling finishes. A professional-grade 4-stage HEPA air scrubber ran throughout the project to control dust and maintain air quality.
The project concluded with removal of all prep materials and construction waste, plus a basic vacuum and wipe-down to restore the home to clean condition.
Chestermere Homes and Poly B Plumbing
Chestermere is a city in the Calgary Metropolitan Region located immediately east of Calgary, centered around Chestermere Lake. Originally a summer village established in 1977, it became a town in 1993 and achieved city status in 2015. The area has experienced rapid growth, with population increasing over 150% between 2004 and 2014 alone.
While most homes within Chestermere city limits were built after 2000, the surrounding rural areas of Rocky View County include older acreages and country properties developed during earlier decades. Properties built between 1985 and 1997 were constructed during peak Poly B installation years, when polybutylene was the standard plumbing material across Alberta.
Homes in the Chestermere area are predominantly single-family detached houses, with nearly half featuring four or more bedrooms. Rural properties on acreages often have additional plumbing runs for outbuildings, shops, or secondary structures, increasing the scope of any repiping project.
Why Chestermere Homes Need Experienced Contractors
Rural and acreage properties present unique challenges for Poly B replacement. Homes on larger lots may have longer pipe runs, multiple buildings requiring water service, and well or cistern systems rather than municipal water connections. Accessing pipes in these configurations requires careful planning and experienced contractors familiar with rural plumbing setups.
The climate in this region adds complexity. Cold Alberta winters put stress on aging plumbing systems, and rural properties without the insulation benefits of neighboring structures can experience more extreme temperature fluctuations. Poly B piping becomes increasingly brittle with age, making these temperature swings a concern for homes still running original polybutylene lines.
Urban Piping serves the entire Calgary region, including Chestermere and surrounding rural communities. Our team handles complete Poly B replacement projects from start to finish, including drywall repair and texture matching to restore homes to their pre-project condition.
