What Calgary Homeowners Are Saying About Urban Piping's Poly B Replacement Service
Finished Friday—Expected Tuesday
Big shout out to Graham and his team of professionals for the complete polybutylene replacement in my house in Sherwood Park. Guys got here at 7am on Monday morning and I received a call Friday afternoon asking if I was available for a walk through at 6pm. I wasn’t expecting the house to be finished until the Tuesday, but Graham and his team worked miracles on my place. I can’t even tell where they cut into the ceiling.

They Lived Up to Their Promise—Couldn't Be Happier
Had my tenants complain that their pipes were leaking in the house. Upon further inspection I found it was the water line pipe called Poly B. I called a couple plumbing outfits out to take a look at replacing the piping but they were all saying it would be just over a week for the plumbing and I was on my own for finding a drywaller, taper, texture, and painter. Not only that but none of them seemed very confident about the job. I couldn’t have my house which had tenants living in it out of commission for that long.
I stumbled across Urban Piping’s website which stated that they had their own crew that took care of everything. I had them out for a quote, and although they were more expensive than the other companies, they promised the house would be completed in 8 business days! Well they lived up to their promise and I couldn’t be happier. Would not hesitate for one minute if put back in that situation to call them again.

Everything Done on Time—Daily Updates Were Amazing
Hey I just wanted to send you guys an email to let you know how impressed my wife and I were with your companies services. Everything was done on time and we can’t even see where the holes you guys cut were. We really appreciated the daily phone calls from Mark to let us know the status updates on the house. Thank you so much.

Worked Through His Lunch to Get Us Running
We are writing this review to express our gratitude to the fellows at Urban Piping for helping us out. Our water heater blew last evening and we were panicking because we had a big family dinner coming up the next day. We called Urban Piping and although they were completely booked for the next day, Taylor, one of the plumbers, worked through his lunch and got us up and running with a new hot water tank. Thanks Taylor!

Make This Huge Project Look Like a Walk in the Park
Had numerous leaks in my house. After fighting at wits ends with my insurance company trying to get them to cover the leaks, I gave in and just called Urban Piping. They were extremely professional and gave me a ballpark over the phone, so I knew what to expect when they came to my house. Upon arrival they quoted me exactly in the ballpark price they had indicated over the phone. I booked the project to start about two months later. Everything was extremely professional from the time they arrived to the time I came back to the house a week later. My advice to someone in the same situation is to just bite the bullet and call the guys at Urban Piping—they make this huge project look like a walk in the park.

Extremely Knowledgeable—Love All the Upgrades
We have been looking at ways to cut down on our environmental footprint. After doing some extensive research we called out to Urban Piping to send over someone to discuss our plans. Urban Piping sent out Jordan, who introduced himself as the company field manager. He was very knowledgeable about all the products that we were looking for and even suggested brands that he found to be more reliable over the years he has been working. So far Jordan has installed a new garburator, an on-demand water heater, low flow toilets, low flow shower heads, and our personal favorite a ‘drain heat capture system.’ This system runs cold water from the main line and wraps a copper coil around the main drain stack and then to the water heater. The idea is that when hot water is draining out the house, the coil with fresh cold water will rise a couple degrees before entering the on-demand system. We seriously love all the upgrades that were done, and we suggest if you can, ask for Jordan.

Can't Thank You Enough for Coming Out in the Middle of the Night
I can’t thank you guys enough for coming out last night and snaking our drains in the middle of the night. I am so thankful that you guys got it all sorted out before I had to start getting ready for work. I really needed that shower for my meeting this morning. Again thank you for your prompt service.

Very Happy—Took Care of Everything
We had a couple plumbing jobs we needed around the house. Taylor came out and took great care to listen to everything we needed done and our concerns. He assured us that everything would be done properly and up to code. Very happy with his work!! I recommend them for all your plumbing needs!

Personable and Professional Service
My neighbour recommended Chris at Urban Piping to come in and install our new furnace and do a couple updates throughout our home. I used to hire a smaller business but the time frame always seemed so stretched out and the projects took a long time to complete. Chris and the other staff were very efficient—they were in and out in record time. The job was done perfectly and I honestly don’t have a single bad thing to say about them! Overall it was a very good first experience.

Responded Quickly—Problem Fixed Fast
I called Urban Piping because we had a small leak in our living room ceiling. I honestly had no idea what to do or who to call, so I posted in our community Facebook and almost everyone suggested Urban Piping. By the morning Stephany was at my condo ready to fix the problem. While they were there I had a couple other plumbing needs that were attended to. It was so great that they were able to come so quickly, the problem was fixed, and that they were able to ensure that I wouldn’t run into any plumbing issues in the near future.

Why Edmonton Homeowners Must Replace Poly B Piping

Insurance Companies Are Taking Action
Major insurers operating in Edmonton—including Intact, Aviva, Co-operators, TD Insurance, and Wawanesa—are actively canceling policies on homes with Poly B plumbing. Homeowners throughout Terwillegar Towne, The Hamptons, Windermere, and other affected neighbourhoods receive non-renewal letters requiring complete pipe replacement within 12-24 months.
New insurance applications are being denied when home inspections reveal Poly B piping. Insurance companies have analyzed the claim data: Poly B systems aged 25-45+ years fail at alarming rates, causing water damage claims averaging $15,000-$50,000 per incident.
Edmonton's Harsh Climate Speeds Up Poly B Deterioration
Edmonton experiences some of Canada’s most extreme weather conditions, which accelerates Poly B pipe failure significantly
- Severe temperature extremes ranging from -40°C winter lows to +30°C summer highs create relentless expansion and contraction cycles. Each freeze-thaw event weakens the pipe structure throughout Edmonton's long winter season.
- Extended freezing periods lasting 5-6 months make Poly B increasingly brittle. The plastic that appeared flexible during installation becomes rigid and crack-prone after decades of Edmonton's intense cold.
- Hard municipal water in Edmonton contains minerals that build up inside pipes while chlorine treatment simultaneously breaks down the plastic from within—a destructive combination unique to Edmonton water conditions.
- Age-related degradation is critical now. Most Poly B installations in Edmonton neighbourhoods are 25-45+ years old, far beyond the material's safe operating life. System failure is inevitable.

Recognizing Poly B Problems Edmonton Home

Visible Warning Indicators
- Grey or white plastic piping with "PB2110" identification stamps
- Brass crimp fittings connecting grey plastic pipe sections
- Brittle or cracking pipes showing visible age-related damage
- Water stains appearing on ceilings or walls
- Low water pressure throughout your home
- Frequent plumbing repairs at connections or along pipe runs
Concealed Damage Throughout Your Home
The most serious Poly B failures develop where Edmonton homeowners can’t detect them
- Pinhole leaks seep slowly behind walls for extended periods, creating extensive mold infestations and structural wood rot costing thousands in professional remediation.
- Connection failures occur when brass fittings detach from Poly B pipes due to material incompatibility. These separations cause sudden flooding or persistent hidden leaks.
- Foundation moisture in Edmonton basements often originates from undetected Poly B leaks rather than exterior groundwater problems.
- Home inspection failures are standard when Poly B is identified. Edmonton real estate buyers increasingly refuse properties with Poly B plumbing regardless of other features. Edmonton basements often originates from undetected Poly B leaks rather than exterior groundwater problems.
- Persistent musty smells throughout rooms indicate hidden mold growth sustained by ongoing Poly B leaks in wall cavities or ceiling spaces.

Urban Piping's Complete Replacement Process for Edmonton Homes
We developed the industry’s most comprehensive turnkey approach, eliminating the frustration of managing multiple contractors for your pipe replacement project.
Total Home Protection
Day 1
Before beginning any demolition or pipe removal in your Edmonton home, we implement thorough protection protocols
- Commercial Ram Board installed across all hard flooring surfaces
- Heavy-duty plastic sheeting covering furniture and cabinetry
- Containment barriers using poly sheeting to isolate construction areas
- Industrial 4-stage HEPA filtration capturing airborne particles
Your family remains in your Edmonton home throughout the project. We restore complete water service every evening to minimize lifestyle disruption.
Complete System Removal & Premium PEX Installation
Days 1-3
Our certified plumbers systematically remove every section of Poly B from your Edmonton property. We create strategic access points in ceilings and walls, then execute full system replacement:
- Extract all grey Poly B piping and brass crimp connections
- Install premium Rehau Class A PEX throughout your complete plumbing system
- Replace exterior hose bibs with freeze-resistant models for Edmonton winters
- Install quality shut-off valves on all hot and cold water lines
- Supply braided stainless steel supply hoses for fixtures and toilets
- Install code-compliant water hammer arrestors protecting appliances
- Execute thorough pressure testing verifying system integrity
Why Class A PEX for Edmonton's climate?
It represents the highest-rated PEX material manufactured, handling pressures reaching 497 psi. Class A PEX won’t burst during Edmonton’s brutal -40°C winters—unlike Poly B which fails catastrophically in extreme cold. The material resists Edmonton’s hard water deposits, maintains performance across temperature extremes, and delivers 100+ year lifespan backed by comprehensive 25-year warranties.
Many Edmonton contractors substitute cheaper Class B or Class C PEX to maximize profits. Urban Piping installs exclusively Class A PEX because Edmonton’s severe climate demands premium materials for long-term reliability.
Professional Drywall Restoration
Days 4-7
Unlike typical Edmonton plumbers who complete piping and leave homeowners searching for finishing contractors, Urban Piping’s in-house restoration specialists manage everything:
- Install structural backing supporting all drywall patches
- Apply professional multi-layer taping and compound application
- Execute expert sanding achieving smooth, flush surfaces
- Match existing texture patterns (all types including knockdown, popcorn, orange peel, smooth)
Full transparency: Some patch visibility may occur due to texture aging and lighting differences. Many Edmonton homeowners select full-room painting achieving seamless results, or choose our “Ceiling Renewal” service providing invisible patch integration.
Our 2-year service warranty protects all drywall work.
Professional Painting & Final Restoration
Days 8-10
- Precise color-matching to existing paint schemes
- One coat premium primer sealing all patched surfaces
- Two coats premium latex paint ensuring durability
- Professional HEPA-filtered cleaning throughout work areas
- Complete removal of all protection materials
- Full construction debris disposal
- Official Poly B Remediation Certificate issued
- 25-year warranty registration finalized
Your Edmonton home will be 90-95% clean upon completion—typically cleaner than before we arrived.
Investment & Value: Understanding Replacement Costs in Edmonton

Factors influencing your project cost
- Total square footage and bathroom count
- Basement completion level (finished spaces require extensive drywall restoration)
- Existing plumbing accessibility throughout your property
- Texture pattern complexity and matching difficulty
Financial benefits of replacing your Poly B system:
- Preserve insurance coverage preventing policy cancellation
- Lower insurance premiums reflecting reduced risk with modern plumbing
- Prevent catastrophic failures (typical Poly B leak damages cost $15,000-$50,000)
- Eliminate mold risks (professional remediation costs $5,000-$25,000+)
- Maintain property values (Poly B homes sell 5-10% below comparable properties)
- Accelerate property sales (educated buyers avoid Poly B homes)
The true cost of delaying rCeplacement:
- Unexpected insurance cancellation
- Emergency water damage restoration ($15,000-$50,000+)
- Professional mold remediation requirements ($5,000-$25,000+)
- Reduced property marketability and value
- Failed inspections preventing sales completion
- Exponentially increasing failure risk beyond 25 years
When comparing Edmonton contractor quotes, recognize that significantly lower pricing often indicates inferior materials. Some companies use Class B or C PEX rather than our premium Class A PEX to reduce expenses—but these lower-grade materials lack the freeze resistance and longevity Edmonton’s climate requires.
Frequently Asked Questions: Poly B Replacement in Edmonton
How do I know if my Edmonton home contains Poly B piping?
If your property was built between 1985-1997, you likely have Poly B throughout your plumbing system. Look for grey flexible plastic pipes stamped “PB2110” with brass crimp fittings. Urban Piping provides complimentary home assessments—call (587) 598-3801 to schedule.
Will my insurance cancel if I don't replace Poly B?
Many Edmonton-area insurers including Intact, Aviva, and Co-operators require complete Poly B removal within 12-24 months or deny policy renewal. Some refuse new policy applications when Poly B is discovered. Contact your specific insurer regarding your policy requirements and timeline.
What does replacement cost in Edmonton?
Urban Piping offers three service packages ranging $5,000-$15,000 + GST, depending on home size, bathroom count, and selected package. We provide flexible financing with monthly payments starting at $150/month.
How long does complete replacement require?
Plumbing work requires approximately 3 days. Our complete Full Service Package (including plumbing, drywall restoration, and professional painting) requires 10 business days from start to final cleanup.
Can my family remain home during replacement work?
Absolutely. Water service shuts off during working hours but restores fully each evening. Our advanced containment systems and protection measures allow comfortable living in non-work areas throughout the project.
What piping material replaces Poly B?
Urban Piping exclusively installs Rehau Class A PEX—the highest-rated piping material manufactured. Unlike Poly B, it won’t burst during Edmonton’s -40°C winters, resists hard water damage, and delivers 100+ year lifespan backed by 25-year manufacturer warranty.
Can I replace only problem sections rather than the complete system?
Insurance companies require complete removal of all Poly B piping to maintain or restore coverage. Additionally, partial replacement leaves aging sections that will likely fail soon, requiring another disruptive project. Complete replacement proves more cost-effective long-term.
Will replacing Poly B increase my Edmonton property's value?
Yes, substantially. Market data shows Poly B homes sell 5-10% below comparable properties with modern plumbing. Many educated buyers refuse considering Poly B homes regardless of pricing. Proactive replacement protects and typically increases property value beyond project cost.
Will I see visible patches after drywall and painting?
We use professional color-matching technology and apply two premium paint coats for optimal results. Some minor patch visibility is normal due to texture aging and lighting variations. Many homeowners select full-room painting for completely seamless appearance, or choose our “Ceiling Renewal” option for invisible integration.
Does Urban Piping service areas outside Edmonton?
Yes. We serve all Edmonton neighbourhoods plus surrounding communities including Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Spruce Grove, Leduc, and throughout Strathcona County.
What warranty coverage does Urban Piping provide?
Every project includes 25-year manufacturer warranty on Class A PEX materials and 2-year service warranty covering all drywall, texture, and finishing work. We issue official Poly B Remediation Certificate documenting complete system replacement.
Do you offer project financing?
Yes. We provide flexible financing options with monthly payments starting at $150/month, quick approval processes, and various term lengths accommodating different budgets.
What should I do if I discover an active Poly B leak?
Call (587) 598-3801 immediately for emergency response. We provide 24/7 emergency service throughout Edmonton, can quickly stop active leaks, assess damage extent, and develop plans for complete system replacement preventing future failures.
What documentation does Urban Piping provide for insurance companies?
We provide comprehensive documentation packages including detailed before/after photographs, inspection certificates, complete material specifications, itemized invoices, and official compliance letters specifically formatted for insurance submission requirements.
